I got tired of it. So I built something for you. No gatekeeping here.
The Cut Flower Garden Directory is now live on our site — 40+ cut flower varieties, every one searchable and filterable, completely free. For each flower you'll find:
- Whether it's an annual, hardy annual, biennial, or perennial
- How it starts — winter sowing, direct sowing, starting indoors, or planting bulbs, corms, and roots
- When to sow it (written for our Zone 7a here in South Jersey, with notes to shift for your zone)
- When it blooms and how long it lasts in the vase
- The honest grower notes — the pinching, the netting, the "sear the stems or it will wilt on you" details that make the difference between a pretty garden and a cutting garden
That last part matters to us. Every stem we grow at Bits & Blooms started as a seed in this soil, and three-plus seasons of trial, error, and second chances taught us which flowers earn their bed space. You'll find all of it in there — including the flowers that are gloriously easy (zinnias, we love you) and the ones we'll gently warn you about before you fall in love (looking at you, lisianthus).
