How to Make a Fresh Evergreen Wreath at Home (Step-by-Step Guide)

Below is the full step-by-step guide for assembling your wreath, using the materials included in your kit. Whether this is your first wreath or you’ve made many before, these steps will walk you through the process from start to finish.
Before You Begin
Unpack your materials and lay everything out on a flat surface. You will need snips or clippers. Organize your greens into small piles: cedar, pine, and magnolia (if included). This makes the assembly process much smoother.
Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace
Make sure you have enough room to spread out. Set your wreath base, greens, wire, and ribbon where you can easily reach them. A clean, flat surface makes a difference.
Step 2: Set Your Wreath Base
Lay out your vine wreath base and rotate it until you decide where you want the top to be. This will guide the direction your bundles should flow.
Step 3: Build Your Greenery Bundles
Begin combining your greens into small bundles:
- One piece of cedar
- One piece of pine
- One magnolia leaf (if included)
Make 12–14 bundles total. Each one should be similar in size so your wreath stays balanced from beginning to end.
Step 4: Wire Each Bundle
Cut a small piece of floral wire. Wrap it tightly around the base of each bundle. Twist securely so the greens stay together. Repeat for all bundles.
Step 5: Begin Attaching Bundles to the Wreath
Place your first bundle onto the wreath base and secure it using the floral wire. Do not cut the wire—keep it as one continuous strand. Add the next bundle slightly overlapping the stems of the first. Wrap the wire tightly after each bundle. Consistent tension is the key to a full, stable wreath.
Step 6: Continue Layering Around the Wreath
Work in the same direction all the way around the wreath. Each new bundle should cover the stems of the previous one. If your wire becomes tangled or difficult to manage, you can snip it, tie it off, and begin a fresh strand with the next bundle.
Step 7: Finish the Circle
When you reach the starting point, lift the first bundle slightly and tuck the final stems beneath it. Wire everything tightly so the wreath feels secure.
Step 8: Fill Any Gaps
Use leftover greens to fill open areas or add extra fullness. Tuck stems under the wire or secure with small pieces of wire if needed.
Step 9: Add Ribbon and Decorative Accents
Tie your ribbon onto the wreath or secure it with floral wire. If your kit includes magnolia cones or other accents, wrap wire around the base and attach them where you’d like. Adjust elements until the wreath feels balanced and complete.
Step 10: Hang and Enjoy
Your wreath is ready to display. For longest life, hang it outdoors and mist the greens occasionally. Avoid placing it near indoor heat sources.
A Note on Sustainability
These wreaths are made almost entirely from natural materials. After the season ends, remove the wire and compost the greens and vine base. Nearly the entire wreath can return to the earth when you’re done enjoying it.
